The CFA Computer Lab offers a wide-range of printing services.
The Lab offers a wide variety of printers and print services. Four self-service LaserJet printers are available. The "5100" is an HP Monochrome LaserJet for printing in black and white. The "5870" is a Canon Color LaserJet Printer/Copier, good for economy-quality LaserJet prints. The "8500" is an HP Color LaserJet for regular quality prints, and the "5550" is a High Quality HP Color LaserJet printer using specially formulated Color LaserJet paper for higher quality output and brightness.
The Lab also offers print services on our five InkJet printers for higher-quality output. For descriptions of these printers, please refer to the Printing Services website. Printouts on these printers are handled by request, and may take up to several days to process. Please see a Lab Assistant for further information.
For the self-service LaserJet printers, ensure that you have money available in your print credit account (NOTE: This is not the same as your BU print quota account), and then choose the appropiate printer for your needs. Payment must be made in advance to a CFA Information Technology Office staff member, and you may use cash or Convenience Points to pay.
We highly recommend that you add money into your account before you print. Any money remaining after you are done printing stays in your CFA Computer Lab account as credit as long as you remain with Boston University as a matriculating student or as an employed staff or faculty member. Any unused credit can be withdrawn by submitting a request to a CFA Information Technology Office staff member at any time prior to one's graduation date or withdrawl from the University.

Prices are posted above the Computer Lab Help Desk as well as on this Web site. All InkJet printing requires a print job request to be submitted online.
The CFA Computer Lab is not connected with the BU Office of Information Technology. As such, the print quota from the BU Office of Information Technology cannot be used in the CFA Computer Lab.
Please note, no file manipulation will be performed on print requests. Customers are financially responsible for the payment of all print jobs completed to a satisfactory degree.

HP LaserJet 5100
Black and White LaserJet Printer
The HP 5100 is ideal for black and white documents or printing large documents at a lower cost. It is the least expensive printing method and can print on 8.5" x 11", 8.5" x 14", or 11" x 17" size paper. It can print double-sided duplex.

HP LaserJet 3390
All-in-One Black and White LaserJet Printer/Copier/Color Scanner
The HP 3390 is both a black and white printer and a black and white copier, as well as a color scanner. The 3390 produces regular-quality black and white prints and copies on 8.5" x 11" paper only. It is not as fast as the 5100, so if possible, we recommend using that if you are only printing.

Ricoh Aficio MP 6001
B/W LaserJet Printer/Copier/Color Scanner
The Aficio MP 6001 B&W Multifunction copier with printer/scanner capabilities. 60 ppm, 1200 dpi, 8300 sheet maximum paper capacity. The 6001 produces economy-quality color prints on 8.5" x 11", 8.5" x 14", or 11" x 17" size paper. It can print double-sided duplex and email scanned documents using the console attached to the copier.

Xerox Phaser 7760
Color LaserJet Printer
The Phaser 7760 is our high-quality color LaserJet printer. It produces the best color prints of any of our LaserJet printers. It features PhaserMatch 4.0 color matching software and uses premium Color LaserJet paper (24-pound, 96 brightness) rather than the plain paper used by the other printers (20-pound, 104 brightness). It can print on 8.5" x 11", 8.5" x 14", or 11" x 17" paper sizes.

The HP 5550 is a regular-quality color LaserJet printer. It features HP's newer color-matching technologies and also uses premium Color LaserJet paper (24-pound, 96 brightness). It can print on 8.5" x 11", 8.5" x 14", or 11" x 17" paper sizes.

The HP 3505 is a regular-quality color LaserJet printer that can print 8.5" x 11" paper size only. It produces our midpriced color prints. It is located under our print cart and it can print double-sided duplex. You may supply your own LaserJet-specific paper at the same printing costs.
